Well, yesterday was Fat Tuesday (day before Lent starts). I figure it is aptly named since I had seven cookies in a two hour time block. It was emotional eating… Drew was making me crazy (screaming bloody murder for no apparent reason) and I was having a major sugar craving. Ooops. Fell of that bandwagon.
And the other perfect reason for yesterday to be Fat Tuesday: we took Drew to the doctors and he’s already 13.56 pounds and 24.5 inches long (he’s grown almost four inches in two months!!!). Other than his Budda belly and his kissable chubby cheeks he’s just long and skinny.
Back to the real reason for this post… I try to give up something each year for the 40 days in between the start of Lent and Easter. Some year’s I’m less successful than others (like giving up sweets, that was a hard 40 days!). But this year I’m giving up something I spend a lot of time on, more time than I should… Facebook.
I loved being in Florida a few weeks ago and being out of touch with technology… there was something restful about it, and that is what I want this season of Lent to be about… rest. Sometimes it’s really easy to start comparing myself to others from high school or college that are on Facebook. And I become dissatisfied with my own life. I think it’ll be good to spend time away from that, especially since I really do love the life God blessed me with… I don’t want to forget that. In fact, I said to AJ on Sunday that I love our little family of three, I love that we are fixing up our home and I love that we have a close knit group of friends. Our life is fun, crazy and full of love. Here’s to forty days of remembering how much God has blessed me with family, friends and meaningful work.
I’ll be linking certain blog posts to Facebook so people can see when I’ve posted since I can do that right from the blog. Remember to write any comments on the blog since I won’t see them on Facebook.
