It was the Little Guy’s birthday last week and we had a party with family for him on Friday… I did a red wagon themed party because he has a minor obsession with the Radio Flyer wagon. So I went a little crazy on the red and white theme. But sometimes crazy is fun, right? 🙂
My sister, Kim, came over the morning of the party and was a balloon blowing machine. I was Swiffering the floor and the next minute I look over and half the floor is covered in red balloons. It was fabulous… The night before while AJ and I watched Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy (can you say “nerds”?) I made the flag banners out of paper I found at Michaels for 4 for a $1… it was the easiest craft ever.
Like this view of our unfinished ceiling? 🙂
I found this frame on the side of the road and spray painted it, and a few others I had in the basement, Rustoleum’s Glossy Red. Never again will I buy the 97 cent spray paint again. This stuff is amazing and goes on beautifully. That is, if you don’t try to do it outside in 30 degree weather while the wind is blowing. Yep, just call me stupid. I learned my lesson and didn’t do that again. 🙂
The water glasses are from Pottery Barn and the fun straws are from the Dollar Store. I feel like this paragraph categorizes my life pretty well… things from our house are either from the side of the road or Pottery Barn and there is nothing a good coat of paint can’t fix. 🙂
This might be my favorite part of the decorations. I lined up the favors on our hutch and decorated with a mini flag banner and some additional red painted frames. The little bowl is holding licorice bits that I had left over from cutting them to fit in the jars.
To make the bunting I just cut triangles of the fun paper, folded over the top and taped in some white string. Bam. Instant flag banner.
I asked my mom and Danielle to save glass jars for me so that I could use them for party favors. I then spray painted the tops… but of course, I’m looking at this photo and I see that I must have missed the side of this jar top… oops. You can’t win them all.
I love this photo of Drew walking around with his birthday balloon that Kim gave him clipped to his pants. He loves that balloon and still plays with it now. Only it’s attached to his high chair now… not his pants.
We did a huge salad bar and ordered pizza… it was the easiest meal ever. And we just finished salad leftovers last night. Yum.
Growing up my Dad would make amazing cakes for our birthday so I decided to continue the tradition and have him make one for Drew’s first birthday. Isn’t it adorable?
The red and white stripped runner you see on the table is some cloth I picked up from IKEA with every intention of sewing it into a runner. I ran out of time and just put it on the table without hemming anything… and you know what? It worked just as well and saved me from going crazy trying to sew it. Have I mentioned that sewing isn’t my #1 gift?
Here we are trying to blow out the candles on Drew’s cake. He obviously only wanted to dig his hands into the cake and eat it.(Notice us holding his hands back.) He’s a smart kid. 🙂
This is the best photo we got of the family. One of us was incredibly wiggly… and it wasn’t AJ or me.
We did gifts in his red wagon… it was like Christmas with the number of toys he got!
Auntie Kim reading Drew a book… maybe the only time of the night he stopped moving for 10 seconds.
AJ’s mom and stepdad, April and Kerry, and his sister, Meredith, made the trek from New York just for Drew’s party! It was so great to have them here! April and Kerry are in Cancun now… anyone else jealous?
Mom and Dad gave Drew this adorable fire engine for his birthday… it’s so classic and handsome (sort of like my little guy!I’m a cheesy mom, what can I say?). This is what a lot of nights look like around the Migonis home… chases around the kitchen / living room circle. When you live in a tiny house that’s possible. 🙂
Drew loves his new maraca… don’t you just love his face in this photo? (And I’m loving my new riding boots (Christmas gift!), but you can’t see them too well in this photo…)
This makes me want to throw another party pronto. 🙂
But instead of planning a party, or cleaning the house because it looks like a Drew tornado went through it, like I should do while Drew is napping I’m going to read my David Baldacci mystery. I think I just jinxed myself. He’s upstairs crying after sleeping for LESS THAN 40 MINUTES! Darn. Darn. Darn.
I am linking this up to Between Naps on the Porch.
