I was reading the blog Sand and Sisal recently when I came across a fun post about wine crates… I’ve always loved the vintage wine crates that I’ve seen people snag at flea markets and wanted to create my own.
I went to a bunch of smaller liquor stores and they looked at me like I was crazy for even asking if they had a wooden wine crate. I then wised up and went to Kappy’s down by our mall (which is enormous) and found a guy stocking shelves and asked him about the wooden wine crates. He knew exactly what I was talking about and said they go fast but he thought he had one! (Tip: always ask the people behind the scenes not the cashiers!)
I brought it home, stained it dark walnut and filled it with Drew’s books so they were at an easy to reach height for him.
See the baskets on the top shelf? Before I stored the books in there… but hey, if I want to promote independent reading (which I most certainly do because I can’t sprint behind him and his rocket outside all day) then I need to move it to his level.
There it is on the toy chest to the left of the photo, it’s at the perfect height for little hands.
Yes, this is his preferred reading position. 🙂
Let’s just say high energy….
