Before we even launch into apple goodness let me tell you about my morning… it was rough to say the least… and I sort of can’t even believe that I’m telling you this before we talk about food… but I’m just keeping it real. 🙂
I was feeling so sick as I was driving home from CVS this morning (where I was ironically picking up anti-nausea meds). I pulled the car off the highway and on to the exit when I started vomiting while driving on the exit ramp and holding up the bag from the prescription I had just purchased to my mouth. By the time I got to the end of the ramp and pulled over the bag was breaking and I didn’t get a chance to get it out the door before the bottom burst out and everything went all over me, the driver’s seat and the door. Needless to say, I cleaned out the car with a bottle of Resolve when we got home, took a hot shower and threw all my disgusting clothes into the washer. I thought being sick in a public bathroom took the cake but this morning was definitely my most humiliating moment thus far in both pregnancies.
Okay, now, block everything I just told you out of your mind and focus on where I’m sitting now and on what I’m eating… while listening to a Jim Brickman Christmas CD. Yes, I started listening late this year, normally it’s August when I break them out. 🙂
Except, right now my laptop, a cup of tea and a now empty apple crisp bowl is at the end of the table by the window.
Remember this pallet box AJ and I made?
If you are new to the blog you can find the post about it here.
I just love how it looks so rustic with all the apple piled in it. Here’s the secret, I had a bunch of apples but didn’t have enough for the entire box… my dish towels are propping up all the apples.
Okay, now, are you ready for a tasty apple crisp recipe?
It’s pretty easy. And not super healthy… so unfortunately not something to eat every day.
I took this recipe exactly from All Recipes here and then made my notes in italics.
Original recipe makes 1 9×13-inch pan.
10 cups all-purpose apples, peeled, cored and sliced (I didn’t peel mine to save time and it was great even with the peels!)
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degree C).
- Place the sliced apples in a 9×13 inch pan. Mix the white sugar, 1 tablespoon flour and ground cinnamon together, and sprinkle over apples. Pour water evenly over all.
- Combine the oats, 1 cup flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda and melted butter together. Crumble evenly over the apple mixture.
- Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for about 45 minutes.
Hope you enjoy! We think it’s delicious!
Oh, and friends, what are your predictions… boy or girl???
