One of my goals before going into labor was to make the bathroom feel “done”. Am I nesting or just freaking out over things that I know will be way easier to accomplish without a newborn? I went to Target today and stocked up on a bunch of diapers and a super size box of wipes so I wouldn’t have to go out again for a while with two kids (I’m sort of nervous about how that works with one extremely fast runner making a break for the car aisle while I’m struggling behind with a cart and a screaming newborn. I suppose I’ll learn pretty quick how to avoid that. :)) I digress… I’m getting as much done now as I can so take a gander at the bathroom window before:
And now… drumroll please…. the POP OF COLOR!
I found HGTV’s fabric Color Study Berry at Joann Fabrics and the colors weren’t what I planned on for the bathroom (you never saw this option when you voted on valance fabrics because I’d never seen it before) but when I saw this I just loved how it would feminize the bathroom. I also loved the price tag: 40% off at Joann’s plus an additional 25% off with a coupon I had. Total cost for 3/4 yard of fabric: $17.99.
It’s a wide valance so that it will work with a window that is the same width as the new windows in our master bedroom. I know the valance would look better if it was sized to the window, but I didn’t want to waste fabric and cut it down to the size of this window just to replace it shortly.
About two weeks ago AJ picked up the window for the bathroom, we’d been waiting for it since January, and pretty much the second we had it in hand we decided to use it for Drew’s room since the bathroom generally is warm, whereas Drew’s room… not so much. That bedroom needs all the help it can get towards being better insulated.
See that blank awkward space above the toilet? It’s one of the few things left that I want to get taken care of before Baby decides to grace us with her presence. The shelves are painted and ready to be hung and accessorized. Can you just imagine the fun I’ll have with the colors in here now that I know what direction I’m heading in?
This photo gives a little picture of some accessorizing that has already started… I took a frame that we had on hand and swapped out the photos for some fabric scraps from the valance. I’d like to hang it on that wall above a hand towel holder but I need to do some measuring first (I totally forgot about the unhung holder while cutting out and mounting the fabric scraps last night). Pregnancy brain? Maybe. Or maybe that’s how I am all the time. More likely. 🙂
Have you ever used Stitch Witchery Hem and Bond tape? I’m in love. That how I did the entire valance thanks to Sherry’s (from YHL) great idea using it for her kitchen valance.
It was so easy to get the crisp lines I wanted with a little ironing. I left large seams at the bottom just in case I wanted to let it out once we got the new window.
I made a little loop for the curtain rod (I’m sure there is a more technical term for that) by doing a couple layers of the Hem and Bond tape to make sure it was extra secure.
I included this last photo so you can get a good picture of the pleats, but also in case you want to pin the fabric to remember what it is!
