While Drew was at my friend Susan’s house yesterday playing with his girlfriend Kate (seriously, he never stops talking about her) and his friend Ezra I was cranking out some projects to get the nursery ready. Honestly, all I wanted to do was read my book and then take a good long nap but you know that phrase “do something today that makes your future self happy”? Well, I knew getting this done would make me happier in the long run, then I wouldn’t have to be working on it after she was born.
Okay, so, the floors in the nursery had seen some lovin’.
They were pretty rough and we’d repainted that green linoleum three times since moving in… hence the decision to throw some polyurethane on it this time and see if that makes it hold up better. AJ is taking on that project today since he has a snow day (again! in March!) and because he’s nervous about my pregnant self doing it.
Here are the new floors with a coat of Benjamin Moore’s Stonington Gray rolled on.
Doesn’t it clean up the room nicely?
I had about half a gallon left over from another project and decided, instead of spending money on another paint color, to just use what I had on hand.
I can’t wait to show you what I have in store for this corner… 🙂
Here is the color next to the sheepskin rug… which, by the way, has been far easier to care for than I anticipated (don’t you love it when that happens?). It’s easy to vacuum and so far we are just careful not to step on it with dirty feet.
Update: a few people have asked about the process of painting the floors, they were a forest-y green when we moved in:
The first time I painted the floor I vacuumed the whole thing then washed it. I then did two coats of paint. When that started wearing off about a year and a half ago I did another coat of a light tan. This time I did just one coat with a roller (better coverage) after cleaning it and then AJ is going to do a coat of polyurethane over it which I’m sure will protect it better than simply painting it. I did the edges with a brush but the roller got so close that it didn’t take too long…
As a reward for a day of hard work, and managing to make it through Market Basket alive at their busiest time with a little guy who spilled bubble bath all over the baking aisle, I made these for AJ and I last night… I won’t even tell you how many of them we ate. Too many. 🙂
Lastly, because I know my grandmother will love this, a photo of Drew and AJ talking on Skype on St. Patrick’s Day to AJ’s mom and step-dad:
