Some of my college girlfriends were in town with their kids this weekend and I decided to whip up a little belt in preppy J. Crew style for dinner one night. I wanted something a little happy after the unbelievably whiny afternoon we’d had so while Drew slept and recovered his normally sweet attitude I did a little fashion work. 🙂
Here’s what you need:
3. Spray bottle of water
5. D rings
6. New Sew Hem Tape (like Heat ‘N Bond)
My first step was to lay out my ribbon next to an existing adjustable belt to size it. If you don’t have a belt like this just wrap the ribbon around your waist and then add about four inches to double the ribbon back at the end.
To secure the D rings I ironed one end of the ribbon down so I’d have a smooth edge and then I put a little piece of Heat ‘N Bond tape on the ribbon, put the other side of the ribbon down on top of the ribbon and then wet it and let the iron sit on the ribbon for about seven seconds to secure the two sides.
Then, I did the same thing to the other end where I’d double backed the ribbon to make it firmer. This is the section of the belt that’ll go through the D rings.
Here we go… two finished ends of the belt and only about five minutes later.
Here is my ultra patriotic outfit on August 4 with my new belt and my coordinated daughter… who happens to be making a silly face. 🙂 I can’t wait to get some other ribbon since my D ring package came with two… maybe you’ll see me sporting a new preppy belt soon… it’s such an easy way to bring fun and color into an outfit.

Next week is Facebook week on the blog… I’ll introduce it on Friday but for now don’t forget to “like” Migonis Home on Facebook to be a part of the fun… there won’t be anything on the blog next week since we’ll be on vacation so make sure you tune in there!
