As you know we were on vacation last week in Ocean Park, Maine. The vacation was wonderful and I felt like crying just thinking about leaving yesterday… I’ve been going there every summer except for the one while the cottage was being rebuilt. It’s an amazing time of enjoying the beach, wandering around the little 1950s town complete with a variety store and soda fountain (the home of the amazing Chocolate Salted Caramel ice-cream) and enjoying completely flat running routes.
The end of summer is near. AJ goes back to school next week to start coaching cross-country again (his 8th year) and I’ve already seen my first leaf that has already changed and fallen to the ground (can you hear me crying?). Don’t get me wrong, I love fall but it just means that winter is close by which is just horrible for this girl who is perpetually cold for three months of the year. I mean, THIS is what I want to see year round:
Despite the fact that it’s nearly fall I finally did a simple summer mantle because I was able to score my own driftwood garland from Reny’s in Maine (it was only $8.99!)… I had used my mom’s for this tablescape and just fell in love with it.
When we got back from Maine our feathery hydrangea bush was flourishing…
…so I happily snipped a few of the stems to put on the mantle. I need some more color on this side of the room… still on the lookout for something fabulous and possibly coral colored.
And why is it that as soon as I got home, before putting barely any of our luggage away I put the garland up on the mantle?
Drew and Elle napped for about 20 minutes simultaneously today and during those precious moments I zoomed around the house and cleaned… nothing like dumping stuff from vacation to make you feel like you need some cleaning and reorganizing… especially when piles of sand come in the house with everything from vacation. 🙂
