For a while AJ and I have been noodling about a front porch… in the past month we’ve had three companies come out to give us estimates. Two of those three companies have come by and then never emailed the estimate and then today we brought in a third company, Coast Construction out of Gloucester, and I told them we needed the estimate by the end of the weekend. Maybe a deadline will be a good thing.
Here’s the front of our house so you can brainstorm with me…
After I emailed Coast Construction one of the owners, Enzo, emailed me this photo of a porch they’d recently done on a house of a friend.
We’ve been looking at porches on houses all around recently and have come up with things we like and don’t like on a number of them. We know we don’t want or need any railings like this one below. You need to have railings if you have more than two steps and we’ll only have one step down which we are hoping to just have a granite slab for.
This mini porch is adorable but too much like what we currently have and we want something with space… namely something that stretches the width of the house and extends about seven feet out to give plenty of room for seating.
We toyed with the idea of having a completely flat porch like this one below because we have two different roof lines and didn’t want to add a third one. Because a flat roof would be more difficult for snow removal we think we’ll do a 5% or so grade with chunky trim around the outside like this one below.
I can’t wait to see some great window boxes on our front porch…. like these amazing ones from down the street. Anyone know what plants are in these boxes?
Have a great night!
