Right on your home page have a photo of you and your super brief intro WITH YOUR EMAIL. I love getting emails from people who read the blog and I love when reading other blogs if the blog author appears accessible by saying “contact me! I love hearing from you!”.
Make your header tell the story of your blog. If you look at my header you’d probably make a pretty accurate guess that this blog is generally about home design. Click here for instructions on how to make your own header (this will fit Blogger designs and for your Facebook cover photo).
Set up some “pages” on your blog. It gives the reader a feel for who you are and will keep them reading. If you are working in Blogger you can do this here in the Layout page…
…speaking of the layout page. Click your way around this whole area… the easiest way to learn Blogger is just to click and discover.
Two things can be learned from the photo above:
1. Have a clean background that makes the blog post and photos easy to see and doesn’t take away from what you are sharing.
2. When posting images have a little text blurb about your project so that people will want to pin it on Pinterest. Speaking of this… always watermark your original photos… it’ll make people Google you and find your blog. It’s great for traffic!
Create a blog button. I’m able to see what people “pin” from Migonis Home and this image has been pinned a number of times to remind the pinner to come back and visit the blog.
In the “Layout” page above make sure you install the gadget so people can sign up to receive your blog posts in their email.
Have a list of your most popular posts. It’ll keep new visitors to the blog reading. This can also be installed via the gadget feature in the layout tab.
Social media is my biggest referrer for the blog. There are more clicks over to Migonis Home from Migonis Home’s Facebook page and from images that are posted to Pinterest than from any other source. Don’t underestimate the power of an active Facebook page for your blog!
Also, let the reader easily pin or share your post right from the end of the post. I believe you can add this in the gadget area on the Layout page.
Have an interesting “About” page… ours is our story from when we met until now. Keep it updated as new major life events occur!
