Remember how I said that I was home on Thanksgiving sick? Well, one of the wonderful advantages of a quiet house and mandatory time in bed is the ability to guilt free shop online. Let me explain… my birthday was the day before and I had some money to Overstock.com burning a hole in my pocket. I’d only been there for a day but for months I had my eye on a couple of things. So when I found this amazing duvet, so similar to a West Elm one I’d loved for a year, go on Black Friday sale I thought I’d do a post all about sprucing up the master for Christmas… and then UPS lost my order and Overstock has no idea where it is. Hmmmm… so, here are my Christmas touches without the one item that inspired it all. 🙂
A little mercury glass goes a long way. This little vase was $5 at Marshalls. Pop some free greens or berries from the side of the road in it and you’ve got an instant Christmas cheer on your bedside table.
A cuddly faux fur throw, like this gray one that I snagged at Marshalls for $20, is perfect for cold nights when your husband runs about 20 degrees warmer than you. 🙂
Switch out your existing art or photographs for something that speaks Christmas to you. I chose a verse I loved from Isaiah and then repeated it multiple times as the background to this 8×10 print.
I then chose each of the four names Jesus will be called and highlighted each one on each frame. I snuck a little green and some berries on the top for added color since we were missing the pretty pink pictures and the little pop of color they brought to the room. This little update cost me zero dollars.
I found these letters at Michael’s for $1.50 each and spray painted them (neon green, purple and blue letters didn’t scream “Christmas” to me :)). I thought “peace” would be the perfect phrase for the master bedroom because it’s the only spot in the house where there aren’t childrens’ toys or books or any of the things you collect when you have kids.
The mantle was just a collection of things that I’ve found over time and I just picked it out of the Christmas bin for our bedroom and a few new ornaments I snagged with a birthday gift card to Marshalls and Crate and Barrel. I chose some of my more elegant ornaments since I wanted this room to feel more dressier than the rest of the house.
