After AJ returned home from school he started in on the demo (if we took care of the demo that saved us the labor charges of the builders deconstructing it). Even though it was pretty rough and falling in there were parts of it, like the roof, that were very well constructed so it took AJ a while to take it all apart.
It looks pretty boring without anything there. And maybe from this photo you can notice a problem that came up during construction that we never realized. The front door isn’t centered on the house. It’s almost a foot closer to the right of the house which made it tricky to decide how to lay out the pillars on the new porch.
The next step was framing out the base of the porch. We opted for it to only go to the eves for two reasons: one, the expense of going farther and working it into the existing slope of the eves and two, because AJ wasn’t sure how it would look to have the three roof lines coming together.
