I’m writing this the day after Christmas and right after Target announced that there was a credit card breach. When I went online to analyze our credit card statements for any fraudulent activity I saw in detail the amount we spent for Christmas, our grocery costs, gas costs, etc. As I write the goals for our home this year I have those numbers in the back of my mind. My number one goal is to create a place where my family and friends feel safe and comfortable… and that includes AJ and I with respect to our budget. In the past I’ve found that I’ve felt this real need to keep producing for the blog even if that meant spending money I shouldn’t have, even if it was just a small amount, just to be able to write a creative post. I don’t want to do that this year.
The biggest goal for this year is to replace the drywall and windows in the living room and Drew’s room. If money allows we’d love to be able to put hardwood floors in Drew and Elle’s rooms. This is a time intensive and expensive project… windows for the rest of the house will be a over two thousand dollars hence not springing for them a while ago.
Finish Elle’s room… replace her rug and possibly try my hand at reupholstering her chair.
There are a few projects in the kitchen that are low budget but will make a great impact.
Numero uno: finish the molding above the hutch:
Replace the pendent lights in the kitchen with something that is a little more “us”.
Sand and paint the ceiling a flat white.
Goal Four: The Outside
Add new porch lights and sturdy window boxes.
Just some small projects out here. 🙂
Add some landscaping outside, some planters to the porch and paint the house. Like I said… no big deal stuff.
Goal Five: Master Bedroom
I’d love to frame in the supporting beams above our bed and sure them up a little more.
…and then make some progress on nightstands that are an appropriate size for our bed and are useful as well… this is pathetic, sloppy and not practical.
Goal Six: Half Bath
Lastly… implement this… or something like it… maybe with more color or more blue:
What are your goals for 2014?
I’d love to know what’s on your docket for the year.
