Side of the road finds are really the best thing ever, are they not?
I’m pretty sure I have something in just about every room in the house that was a free find.
Today’s $30 Thursday project is no exception.
You may remember from this post that I found this dresser on the side of the road thanks to AJ’s fabulous co-worker, Cathy. I gave it a makeover in Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter and it was great to us for two years.
Here she is after the makeover in a very indirect shot from Christmastime.
Then I started dreaming of giving it a little bit of a glam makeover… I saw Centsational Girl’s incredible makeover with mirrored doors and it gave me hope I could pop mine out too. I was in luck!
I found a house hold adhesive at Lowe’s, where I got the mirrors cut, and applied that all around the unfinished wood on the photo below.
I brought the wood insert that I took out to Lowe’s and had the employee cut the mirror to the exact size of the wood insert. They charged me $17 for the entire mirror but now I have a giant piece of mirror left over for another project… maybe I’ll make a mirror for our half bath that we would love to put in ohhhh yesterday. 🙂
Then it came time to paint. I chose Country Chic Paint’s Pebble Beach. It’s a gorgeous gray with hardly any undertones and it painted beautifully. I used their Natural Wax to protect the entire piece.
I’m thrilled with the results! If I had to peg the style it would be vintage glam.
You wouldn’t believe how many times I had to straighten the living room while shooting these photos. Note to self: don’t shoot mirrored photos while your children are in the house playing. It will look like a disaster zone in every photo thanks to the reflection of what is going on in the rest of the room. 🙂
I chose pulls from Lowe’s that are exactly like the one that I used on my nightstand and the glass knobs are from this fantastic store near us, Building Supply Outlet in Peabody.
There you have it… my $30 Thursday project!
$10 pulls + $7 knobs
$6 mirror (this is approximate but I have about 2/3 of the mirror I bought leftover so I’m not counting the entire $17 cost)
free buffet + free paint + free staging
Not bad for a noticeable transformation. 🙂
Make sure you check out what my fabulously talented friends did for $30 Thursday, I love April’s adorable bird display… pop over to House by Hoff to find out how she did it:
Shayna not only made some interesting art but it is totally helpful (I never have any idea what the parts of the cow refer to when I’m buying meat):
