Until I put some moula into my upholstery fund I decided to give it a temporary fix and try the “painting fabric” technique I saw all over Pinterest. Let’s just say “Pinterest FAIL”. It’s not a comfy fabric anymore but I know what look I’m going for when the fabric comes off.
Envision the piece you find with different paint or upholstery and see if you feel better about it.
AJ and I were driving around one night when we found this amazing coffee table on the side of the road.
It wasn’t the color I wanted and I didn’t really want marker and dried glitter paint all over my coffee table…
…but I knew the design was very similar to one like this that I’ve seen at Restoration Hardware (only mine is $2000 cheaper) and I loved the dark color of the RH piece.
You know I love Mixwax’s Jacobean and after a couple of hours of sanding and staining we had this table. It stands out so much better from the rug now and all the marker is gone.
Come back tomorrow and find out my three other tests for if a second-hand piece is worth it… what are your tests? Do you find it easy to envision if a piece that needs work will fit in your home?
