AJ said when I took these lamps out of the box that they were very Palm Beach. I think he’s right. And I love it. They feel slightly glitzy. They’re not safe…normally I make safe decorating decisions but this one was a fun decision and I haven’t regretted it. Our master bedroom has been a great place to play with a little bit more dressy style than the rest of the house. Sort of like a calming grown-up oasis from the ridiculous amount of primary colored toys that the two youngest members of the family have acquired.
Yesterday the kids and I were walking around the circle by our house when our wonderful 90 year-old neighbor stopped us and asked us to come inside to see how empty her house was (they moved into an assisted living home yesterday). She wanted to give away as much furniture as possible and I happily took her up on her offer for a few pieces which have really helped our master feel a little more complete and grown-up. One of the items she gave us a piece from their dining room set that works perfectly for AJ’s nightstand (I always know how well-made something is by how much it kills me to carry it… the heavier it is generally the better a piece it is, so when I felt like I was going to fall down the stairs with it I knew it was a good piece. :))
The nightstand is black with leaves and acorns painted on it. It needs a paint job to fit in with the colors of our bedroom but the shape and drawer space of the piece works perfectly for the room and for the lamp. I had painted what AJ was using for his nightstand to be ready for this post and then we got this piece that fit into the space gorgeously and instantly the dresser AJ was using went into Drew’s room. No piece of furniture was safe around our house yesterday. We had a man come over from a local tree company to give us an estimate on removing the gorgeous but very dead and dangerous ivy covered tree in our backyard and I had to apologize profusely to him for a house with furniture absolutely everywhere and a kitchen that was a mess (it was more fun rearranging furniture than cleaning yesterday morning. :)).
Probably my favorite part about these Kenroy Home lamps is the fact that the coral looks so real. You know how you see coral sometimes it and it looks like a cheap Dollar Store imitation of what coral should look like? That’s not the case with these lamps. Every little detail is well thought out… right down to the bases of the lamps. I love the weathered look of the base. It’s driftwood-y without making the lamp too rustic.
Speaking of every detail being thought out… how about these cute little pieces of coral for the top of the lamp? 🙂
We still have a list of things to finish up in the master but tomorrow, and in the next few weeks you’ll be seeing more progress as we move towards completing that room.
I was given these lamps by Kenroy Home but all opinions and wording in this post are 100% completely my own… including the fact that I’m totally in love with these lamps and how chic they make our bedroom feel.
