I always hesitate to show you photos of Drew’s room. It’s so unfinished still and I feel like I haven’t had the decorating inspiration in there yet. The walls have the paint peeling off the wallpaper and the paint has been coming up off the linoleum since we painted it. The lighting is terrible and yada yada yada. This room is a lesson in humility. Nothing is perfect in it and I always feel like I have to apologize for it… which I’m learning I don’t. We are doing the best we can. As I was taking these photos today I started to put together a list of things I’m thankful for in this room instead of a list of things I wish I could change. I’m thankful for the ugly linoleum floor because I never worry about Drew scratching it. I thankful for the new window in here because at least this one doesn’t make it sound sound like someone is breaking into the house every time the wind blows wildly. I’m thankful for great artwork by Drew. I’m thankful for new bedding that perks up the room.
I’ve been thinking about madras bedding for Drew’s room ever since I saw it on the Pottery Barn Kids site. He had the twin white coverlet on his bed that I used in my pre-AJ days and needless to say, it was both feminine and a little worse for the wear after a three year old boy lived with it and threw it all over his room so he could jump on his bed.
About a month ago I ordered Nautica’s Chatham twin quilt from Wayfair and am totally in love with how it looks in Drew’s room (similar product here… Chatham is not listed on the website anymore). It’s boy-ish but not little boy-ish. It’s something that he can defintiely have for years because I don’t forsee this style going out of style anytime soon. It’s not a lot less than what the Pottery Barn Kids one that I first saw cost but this was $25 cheaper and I’ve had great luck with the quality of Nautica products before. The quilt works pretty well with my side-of-the-road bed, doesn’t it?
I’ve said many times that our house style is beachy chic and as I’ve made our house fall and winter ready over this past month I want to add another adjective into the mix. Cozy Beachy Chic. What’s the purpose of a house if you don’t feel comfortable or welcomed there? This quilt feels comfy and brings in all sorts of colors into Drew’s room… which is a good thing since he’s constantly painting pictures at school and bringing them home. His favorite is an abstract red painting. We have loads of those. I have a vision of turning the wall opposite his bed into an art gallery filed with his paintings. Will it be beachy or chic? No. But he’ll be comfotable and happy knowing that we loved his artwork enough to frame it.
I took some quilting fabric I bought from Joann’s and made it into a long, incredibly simple, navy pillow for his bed. It’s the perfect pillow for story time. 🙂 Okay, and speaking of story time, let me tell you the cutest thing. We were just about to eat dinner and Drew asked us if we wanted to hear what he told his class he was thankful for today. “Reading with Mommy and Daddy.” I said: “Drew! I love that! I’m about to cry!” and his eyes started to well up and his lip started to quiver. Apparently tears of joy are lost on a nearly four year old. I had to backpedal in my language quickly. 🙂
The good part for you is coming up… DEAL ALERT: Wayfair is offering from today through November 24th 15% off ANY Pillow, Pouf or Throw with the promo code WFPTP15. Let me show you some I love.
Drew loves super soft blankets, he always refers to blankets like this one as “Kitty Blanket” (you know, soft like a kitty. :)). I’ve been on the lookout for one like this for the end of his bed… something dark that won’t show stains and something super comfy that Drew would love.
I’ve been itching to become a fabulous knitter overnight and make something dynamite like this incredible throw but since I have no idea how to even do one stitch my guess is that won’t be happening anytime soon. 🙂 I can see something like this in Drew’s room… if it was in a different color.
I’d love to pop a pillow with some character on his bed. He’d love it if it had an animal or something on it. This one from Birch Lane is charming. Actually, anything from Birch Lane is charming.
I partnered with Wayfair for this post but all opinions are my own… especially how I’ve had my eye on something his new for Drew’s room like this forever and how I’m in love with this product.
