Today was the start of some big doings for our hallway. For a while I’ve had this orb that I picked up at Home Goods sitting in our living room on display just waiting for our stairway makeover to really get started. I had some credit to Home Goods around Christmas (you know when you can’t find your receipt for a return and they won’t look it up for you on your card? That’s what happened to me.) It actually turned out to be a good thing because I thought the shape of this orb was great… not to mentioned the $25 price tag. On Friday when my friend Bre, from Rooms for Rent came over we started talking about the orb and how I was going to turn it into our chandelier in the hallway. I was stumped on what I should buy to make it a light because I didn’t want a plug (all the make a lamp kits have a plug at one end of the wire) and she told me about a pendant fitter kit that Lowe’s has. I trucked over there this morning and found a great one in oil-rubbed bronze for only $20 (HERE online). Score!
After leaving Lowe’s I checked my email. I had sent a proposal to Rugs USA to partner with them for the runner in our stairway and I heard that they’d love to work together (doesn’t that sound so business woman-y to “send a proposal” to a company? :)). I was completely thrilled and ordered this runner which will totally work for the look I’m going for. I adore jute rugs (we have a couple from West Elm that I found on Craigslist) and I find that they are so much more comfortable than sisal… and I’m guessing it’ll be better at blocking out the noisy stairs as well since they are thicker.
Recently I framed some of my favorite baby outfits Drew and Elle wore HERE and now this is part of the artwork in the landing at the top of the stairs.
Hopefully later this week or beginning of next week I’ll have the project that underway for the giant stretch of wall above the stairs. It’s 2ft by 3ft and very personalized. I’ll leave it at that and see if you can guess. Our next step is to finish the drywall work in the hallway and replace the stair treads so that we are ready to go with the new runner.
Do you have any mini makeovers that you are working on today? How many of you have the day off for Martin Luther King Day?
