Elle’s “big girl room” has been a work in progress since we moved into this house at the beginning of August. I’ve been trying to find pieces that aren’t just suited for a two to three year old but things that can grow with her. The minute I found this girly bedding on Hayneedle’s website I knew it was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted white so I could work in the colors with the blues and purples I already had in Elle’s room but it is so feminine looking with the little ruffles over the entire set, and Elle is nothing if not feminine. The girl wears tutus to bed and the first thing she will ask for in the morning is her jewelry or a tutu if she lost it being naughty the night before.
My parents gave us the double mattress that I used in high school and then when I came home from college. The bed is far larger than the crib she came from, it’s a fit for her wild sleeping habits and it’s a top notch place to jump on the bed.
I think I’ll grab some Euro sham inserts at IKEA and then make some covers in either a purple or the fun blue of the Hayneedle throw (it’s only $25 now!)
The little couch at the end of the bed was mine growing up… I always remember my sister stuffing her with as many dolls and animals as possible.
Don’t the ruffles on the bedspread look so cute and girly without being over the top?
For whatever reason whenever I look back at pictures it’s always easier for me to see things I want to change decorating-wise than it it just by looking at the room standing in it. The wreath that I attempted to flock is one of those things. I think you’ll see the birch bark wreath over Elle’s bed for the Christmas home tour. It’ll have great texture to play off the bed set but still be wintery looking.
Here’s what I still need to do in here:
- Paint the walls (it’s a light cream color so it’s not urgent but I want to do something that compliments the room a little better, although still keep it very light)
- A rug in the blue family
- Curtains for all the windows with a fun colorful panel on the bottom
- Hang Elle’s Lupine Lady prints
I can’t wait to share with you the whole room decked out for Christmas in the coming days! The month between Thanksgiving and Christmas is easily my favorite of the whole year… there is something so magical leaving the Christmas lights in the kids rooms on while they sleep and then creeping down before everyone walks up in the morning and turning the Christmas lights on and just basking in a few minutes of serenity, even if it’s just till Elle wakes up at 5:20am. 🙂
Thank you, Hayneedle, for sponsoring this post and for the gorgeous bedding for Elle’s room! I absolutely love it!
