Today marks the one year anniversary of us living in this home. It sounds like nothing compared to the forty years the previous owners spent here but in that one year we’ve made loads of memories… I have said many times to AJ: I never want to forget this moment. Our lemonade stand in the front of the house, the kids running down to the beach, the kids looking like two little marshmallows in their snow suits, drinking their first mug of hot chocolate during a snowstorm and winding up with mustaches, etc.
We haven’t painted anything upstairs and have only added our furniture and accessories into each room… except for the bathroom. The upstairs is in great shape and we really only need to make it our own through furniture and accessories.
I’d love to purchase a new bed, like this one, and a larger rug for the space, with the vision that it’ll work when we one day move into the master suite (we’ve rented it out now).
Drew chose this room simply because there was a soccer ball in it during our showings.
As you can see we’ve just popped our furniture in here. After one of the curtain rods fell off the wall I just never put them back up… I need to spend some time some afternoon just hanging artwork and curtains.
Drew just loves this rug for playing cars… it’s built in roads and perfect for his line-ups. He’s our little artist and just painted the beautiful picture on his dresser last week in art class. It’s fun to watch his personality form and see what he really enjoys. He loves art, reading, Legos and cars.
We’ve added sweet touches throughout Elle’s room to make it so her… she’s a girly girl and a pink lover through and through.
The guest bedroom is in a “dumping ground” state right now. We have some new pieces in here for an upcoming makeover which you’ll be able to see within the next week but we also have the vanity and toilet in here for our bathroom makeover. Maybe this room is just the holding station for makeovers. It’s pretty classy to have the bed on the floor, isn’t it? Especially since we’ve hosted numerous times like this…. let me tell you right now, your home doesn’t have to be perfect to host. You can even have a mattress on the floor (but we are working on rectifying that :)).
This is the room where we iron every day so we always leave it set up unless we have guests… so I figured since these are “in progress” shots I’d leave it up to show you how we really live.
Yesterday afternoon I took some real life photos of what it actually looks like right now. AJ took down the bump outs holding the medicine cabinets on each side of the vanity and the mirror over the vanity.
He’s in process of removing the area above the vanity which was built out just to hold an over the head light. I can’t wait to see what it looks like without the cabinet above the toilet. We are still using it while it is under construction. We are fortunate to have a half bath downstairs so we can use the sink and toilet there while we replace the vanity and toilet in here.
I returned home from a mom and sister date on Sunday and found that AJ found friends to help bring the vanity upstairs… so now it sits in the guest bedroom waiting to be installed. The faucet and other bath accessories arrived on Tuesday! We are planning on finishing the toilet and sink part of the bathroom and then tackling the shower so not everything is under construction at once.
I’m itching to start repairing and painting the walls so we are ready to install the vanity and toilet. We plan to add a claw foot tub in the future by bumping into the guest bedroom so we aren’t tackling tile floors as part of this makeover. The Home Depot has some stick on marble floor tiles that we will use until do the tub because we know we’ll need to rip up the floor to have the plumber add some pipes over to the other side of the shower. The floor tile I have my eye on isn’t cheap so we don’t want to waste money by ripping that up in a year or so (or however long it takes for us to get to the tub), whereas the sticky tile seems like a smarter choice for the budget.
So what do you think? We’re making some progress, right?
