This is the first year in a while I haven’t done a fall home tour and I love it. I’ve been so much more focused this fall on getting the kids in school (Drew started kindergarten at the end of August and Elle is in pre-school for two mornings a week) and making sure they have a great afternoon after school. I read one of the best articles recently about kids’ attitudes after school and how to curb it… it’s really changed how I’ve been parenting and I can’t even begun to tell you the difference in my relationship with Drew and Elle. It’ll take you five minutes to read it. One of the biggest changes has been to be totally actively involved with them when they first get home… no phone, computer, dishes, etc. If I can give them 100% attention for 30-60 minutes we are good to go for the rest of the day. Yesterday they got home and Drew decided he wanted to set up a restaurant in the playhouse. So we set up an ultra cute little fall space that reminded me so much of the days my sister and I would play restaurant in our basement.
I had just been playing with my new Better Homes & Gardens soup bowls for a table I have to photograph so they came out…
… a neighbor left buckets of freshly picked apples out by his barn and they became the centerpiece…
… a mum we picked up for a real estate client added some color and one of our pumpkins from the front steps made an appearance.
I love seeing Drew’s hand writing on anything painted so I had him write the name of his restaurant and I gave it a quick coat of paint. We hung it up to dry and the restaurant was born.
I love these photos of the kids… they were playing the cutest game of “pretend you are surprised at what’s in the bowl”.
If you feel the need for a cute little playhouse after seeing this here are a few I adore. 🙂 I tried to keep the selection relatively affordable for a wooden playhouse but I had to throw a couple fun expensive ones in. I did rule out the uber expensive incredible ones that were $10,000 though… you know, if you were interested in a children’s playhouse that could be the cost multiple months of mortgage payments.
