When we listed our last house for sale we had a house picked out that had been sitting on the market for a while. We were so excited about it… until we wrote our offer and heard that another family made an offer at the same time. We felt so discouraged… and then we found our current home.
It was a larger house and had a bigger yard, our two biggest criteria, but it was missing some of the things we loved about the house we were leaving. It was a hard first year being here feeling like the house didn’t feel like us yet and we just really missed the walkable area of town we’d been in previously. Fast forward six years. We now love this house and adore that we have space for the kids to run and neighbors we love. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to be during the pandemic. One of our neighbors fixed up a tree house for all the neighborhood kids and it was the saving grace during those long months of no significant plans.
Because we are real estate agents, and just love houses, we are always looking for what’s for sale in town. We have looked at a couple of homes but nothing hit our big three must haves that would have made us go through the hassle of moving again:
Larger yard for animals (AJ grew up on a farm and wants goats and chickens) and hosting events (my background is in event planning)
Closer to town so the kids could ride their bikes or walk to the beach and school
We didn’t have a long list but you’d be surprised how almost nothing came up over the years that fit that criteria and our budget… until June when an amazing home that fit all the criteria came on the market. We hustled for three weeks to get our home ready to sell (basically finishing all the projects we started and never finished, we are so terrible at finishing the last 10% of home projects because we are so excited to move onto the next one!).
Long story short, we have our home and our “forever” home under agreement. We know nothing is final until closing but we are really excited and can’t wait to share the space with you provided everything works out but for now, here are some photos of our current home. I can’t wait to share the before and after photos side by side with you and walk you through everything we did end up doing to the house!
If everything goes according to plan we will sell our current house at the end of August, purchase the next house a week later and move in mid-September.
